Home-made: Neopolitan hospitality in London

When the Neapolitan boys;  Alessandro, Mimmo and Emmanuele, invited us girls; myself, Angela and Nikki, for dinner at their home, there was no refusing. How can you say no to south Italian hospitality?

I could have been in Naples delightfully sampling good food, were it not for my Italian friends making every effort to speak english at the table. And truthfully the boys – especially Alessandro, did us proud with a 4-course Italian-inspired, North London-made mushroom risotto, lemon chicken with roast potatoes, and dessert. The 4th course was of course the endless supply of drinks, including home-made whiskey sour – Neapolitan style.  Eating, drinking, laughing and (a bit of dancing) into the early hours of the morning…

To think this friendship had been formed in less than a week when Mimmo, working at Princi, gave myself and Angela a ‘special table service’ that day we arrived for lunch in the Italian pizzeria in Soho. And to show how a friendly smile can instantly connect people, Mimmo managed to arrange a job interview, and later work trail for Angela visiting London for the summer from Genoa Italy. The power of connecting when least expected…
