On the 23rd February I had the pleasure of attending the very first Black Beauty and Fashion Awards with my friend, fashionista and style icon – Julius Reuben. We landed ourselves VIP tickets, thanks to a contact, which got us a seat at the table close to all the action. When we weren’t sneaking backstage to greet Angela Plummer or snapping pictures on the red carpet, both in outfits styled by Julius himself from his fashion line collection, I took an opportunity to ask 6 meaningful questions to share with readers a bit more about Julius Reuben – a person of selective words with an eye for style which transcends societal norns.

Pretty in Pink: Styled by Julius Reuben
1. You’re known as a style icon. How would you describe your style?
My style is very eclectic. I’m known as a chameleon as I draw my inspiration from everything around the universe and any thing including my cultures, my gender, my sexuality and my travels.
2. What are your thoughts on the UK Beauty and Fashion industry?
It is evolving in very slowly pace which means most of us are still left behind. It is still a bit bias towards diversity, but I feel London still offers more than most cities in Europe.
3. What tips do you have for someone trying to figure out their style?
Keep it neutral, keep it layered and experiment with accessories – the rest will follow.
4. I’m loving your rings! What’s your must-have accessory to make you stand out from the crowd?
It depends on the look I’m channeling but accessories are a must have for me as they take the look to another level and give it a bit of a definition.
5. What tips do you have on creating meaningful connections (in the Fashion industry or personal life)
Be humble, talk less listen more. I think that is the advice I will also give to myself as well.
6. If you could have lunch with one famous person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
I don’t do famous people. My idol and celebrity is my late grandmother and she would will be the one person that I would like to have lunch with and thank her for everything she did for us, especially me. She died before I could say thank you!
