Let’s do Lunch Travel | #PressForProgress: For All the Unnamed, Unheard, Unseen This International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day to all the women on their hustle, often unnamed and unseen… #PressForProgress includes your struggles too!

Can we talk about progressing for gender equality if it isn’t representative all, particularly those most marginalised? Here in Palermo, Sicily, I witnessed the Women’s Day March for equality, and wondered just how inclusive is their demands to include concerns Black women living in Palermo, particularly migrant African women who are often exploited in the widest sense; from low pay to sexualised and exoticised.

This International Women’s Day I’m saluting women like the owner of this ‘unnamed’ restaurant I ate Ghanaian food at earlier today in Palermo – I see you even if there’s no name under which to share with others! I’m saluting my tribe of doers who don’t wait for an opportunity to be handed to them before they create their own.

As someone who stands for diversity and representation, travel is a great way of widening the equality discourse beyond the UK. My passion is to discover first hand those untold stories from people thriving in unexpected places… Those who create create their opportunities as a matter of survival or rebellion to not conform to the norms of society.

I’m proud to be part of that club, and I pledge to use my platform as a way to recognise those with in it, often unseen and unheard.
