A step forward: Women vote for the first time in Saudi Arabia

History has been made in Saudi Arabia today as women are allowed to cast their vote and put themselves forward as candidates in the local elections for the first time.

It’s surreal to think such news is hitting the deadlines in 2015 – not 1950’s!

Despite the step forward, the Middle Eastern country officially known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, still carries restrictions on women such as obtaining a passport and accessing high education without the permission of a man.

Let’s hope it won’t be another 50 years before the next foot towards equality is brought forward.
