You can’t beat a better “welcome to England” than a serving of crispy battered fish and chunky chips! And that was my welcome back to London after being away for the summer, timed perfectly with friends visiting from Milan last week!
Upon their request to sample “British food” (which I’ll be honest isn’t my speciality after my local chippy closed down last year), the hunt for fish and chips was on . Luckily we came across Poppies Fish and Chips restaurant in Camden after entering 2 pubs which stop serving food after 9pm. The two-story restaurant with an all-glass façade and “Poppies” lit in lights, is certainly an upgrade to any “chippy” I’ve come across! Yet the essence of the humble “fish and chips shop” I grew up loving (fish and chips was a family tea-time treat, than something eaten everyday). Filled with war-time decor and a menu which doubles as an autobiography, anyone who knows me knows I love a story behind the food I eat, however more so a history behind the food I eat, and Poppies offers that and more in just one visit! Live music, good food and good company!
Poppies gets my recommendation for food, service and ambiance!
