What do two young enterprising women who’ve set up blogs about Soho from opposite sides of the globe – SoHo Strut (New York City) and My Soho Times (London) have in common besides arts, events and connecting their local community?… Love for pizza!
I discovered blogger, event organiser and “SoHo expert”, Danielle Nazinitsky, by chance via a Google search a few months ago when I was researching other blogs similar my own, My Soho TImes. And with just a few days before my trip to NYC, I reached out introducing myself and our common projects which could potentially link us together as good contacts.
Since my visit to Numero 28 Notting Hill London earlier last month, I’ve been looking forward to visiting the sister branch in NYC (there are 5 dotted around the city), so I organised a lunch date with Soho Strut founder to join me at Numero 28 West Village. We sat outside on the side-walk which provided an essence of the quaint West Village atmosphere. The restaurant was under some scaffolding renovation at the time however it didn’t detract from the mood – I was in good company after all!
Specialising is in authentic Neapolitan pizza, freshly baked in a brick oven to achieve genuine results; this is good pizza perfect for sharing.
Our waiter Marco – of course from Italy, offered a very friendly and attentive service. His recommendation were the D.O.C: Tomato, cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, basil and San Daniele: Tomato, mozzarella, Arugula, and Proscuitto, which myself and Danielle shared in an 18″oblong shaped pizza, as we spoke about our future projects and comparisons between our Soho districts.
Slightly pricer than your “average” quick lunch, it’s probably better value to soak in the NYC nightlife over a dinner service. However for a meeting which could blossom into a potential life-long contact – it was certainly worth it. Come hungry!
Note that this restaurant doesn’t take card – so urban girls, you might want to have some cash at hand!
Join Danielle and SoHo Strut on the 10th September for their premier fall event: Street Art Strut! A SoHo loft party showcasing 8 of NYC’s top street artists. For more info visit SoHo Strut.
